Thank you for writing this article. I thought the government was incompetent and didn't have a clue about running a government. Recently I started to think that they knew exactly what they were doing. They are looking after the super rich and their donors. The whole system needs to change. Tax wealth more, tax work less.

Yes absolutely. They are in fact very competent at meeting their agenda. Its just that agenda has zero to do with our wellbeing.

No idea why more people have not acknowledged this sooner. Its the reagan/thatcher playbook from the 80s. Its the RW playbook of centuries. Of course its deliberate. Always has been. Poverty is necessary to keep control of the masses. Well written piece. Sad we have to keep reminding each generation.

Is this why French peasants set up guillotine in the streets...?

Thanks, Annie - very illuminating

This is fascinating. Thank you for writing it. My question is why? Why are the doing this? How does ruining people benefit a country as a whole or are they simply out for themselves and the rich?

I think they honestly believe they are doing the right thing. I also think we will never convince them to change their mindset, as there would be personal loss if they did.

Neoliberalism is really hardwired into people's psyches now (35 years and counting).

MsP's avatar

No they don't. They are entirely self serving

The latter I think. Remember that those that benefit from this policy hold off shore assets- houses in Hawaii etc to which they can ‘retire’ when it suits them. Cynical I know but…

MsP's avatar

They are simply out for themselves.

Neoliberal consolidation or end game capitalism? Eh, potato - po-tay-toe.

Definitely the same outcome for us bottom feeders!
